The Fundamentals

 

You may never find yourself in a fistfight, but you will certainly find yourself in a spiritual battle.

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8) 

 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)

And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

What do we need to do to prepare? 

 There’s a big difference between fighting, and fighting well. 

Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.

For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, (Ephesians 6:12a) 

 Truth, Righteousness, a Mission, Faith, Salvation, and the  Word of  of God.

1: Truth

Stand firm therefore, having belted your waist with truth, (Ephesians 6:14a)

2: Righteousness

“Put on the breastplate of righteousness. (Ephesians 6:14b)

 3: Mission

Stand firm therefore, having belted your waist with truth,

and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, (Ephesians 6:14)

and having strapped on your feet the preparation of the gospel of peace; (Ephesians 6:15)

 4: Faith

above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. (Ephesians 6:16)

 5: Salvation

 And take the helmet of salvation, (Ephesians 6:17a)

6: Word of God

and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; (Ephesians 6:17b)

Truth, Righteousness, Mission, Faith, Salvation, the Word of God. 

 What fundamentals have we applied to our lives, and which ones have we chosen to neglect?

But the evil spirit replied to them, “I know about Jesus and I am acquainted with Paul, but who are you? (Acts 19:15)

 He who has begun a good work in you will complete it. (Philippians 1:6a)
